Mantra meditation can take a wide variety of styles.  Meaning, there are many different types of mantra meditation.

A mantra is the repetition of a particular word, sound, phrase or song.  This repetition can be chanted, sung, spoken, whispered or even silent and pronounced inwardly.

This mantra is what you concentrate on as your meditation practice.  Hence the term mantra meditation.

One particular form of mantra meditation is that of working with the chakras.  With the principles of vibration resonance, particular mantras can be used to work on the chakras.

Chakras are the energetic centres of the body.

There are a series of particular mantras that are used when working on the chakras with sound.  These are known as the bija mantras.  The bija mantras are sounds of only one syllable.

The bija mantras originate from the Indian Vedic and Tantric traditions.  These power and potentially of these bija mantras is said to be enormous.

Each bija mantra corresponds to a particular area on the body.  And with these bija mantras you can use the bija mantras that correspond to the particular chakra to work on the chakra system.

Working with the bija mantras can be done in a number of ways.  If you feel you need to work on a particular chakra you can choose the corresponding mantra to work on that chakra.

Or you may wish to work on more than one chakra.  So here you would work again with the corresponding mantras for the corresponding chakras that you are wishing to work on.

Alternatively you can work the entire system of the chakras.  In this system of working, you would work from bottom to top or top to bottom.

Working the entire chakra system in this way gives your system a full work out and rebalancing in your mantra meditation practice.

In your mantra meditation practice, there are a number of ways to work with the chakra system.  Find what is right for you.
