Have you ever felt like your life was a giant roller coaster, gaining speed with every turn.

Your boss maybe demanding asking more and more from you, your partner may complain of you being workaholic and have no time for her or your children, your elderly mother may be relying on you to keep her company and manage her affairs as she had a fall recently. At the end of the day you may have felt you had enough and at a loss what to do,  whom to turn to for support and how to let off steam to regain your calmness.

Living on overdrive seems to be the norm, in my experience as a yoga teacher, for people who are worried, stressed out and working overtime to satisfy other people.

If you can agree with one of the five following symptoms, possibly you have too much stress, worry and are dealing with too many problems.

The following are a few indications you may be in need of some time off. You often experience body aches and pain. You can’t focus on the job and end up working more. You worry about the problems that you have when you drag your work home and how it impacts your relationships. Most of the times, you are exhausted and worn out. It takes double the usual amount of time and effort to make yourself get up and go. It appears that you have lost your motivation. You’re grouchy with your coworkers and also with your family members. Your heart rate exceeds normal levels. You may find that you frequently have held your breath unknowingly and caused an increase your blood pressure.

If you are experiencing this, how can you relieve the overwhelming worry and stress you are feeling? What actions can you take to relieve some of the demands that push and pull you in too many directions? What can one do to manage and lessen stress?

Take a vacation and relax.

We all need a break from time to time. How long ago was it that you took time off, or a holiday? A vacation can sometimes be stressful, especially if have to juggle the demands of your wife and children.

Several days’ respite from your usual routine can invigorate you and give you a fresh viewpoint as well. Generally, when you are on vacation, make an effort to be outside in the fresh air as much as you can, allow time for leisurely strolls, eat healthy and drink plenty of water. Use the location to lie down, go to sleep earlier, read a book, do crossword puzzles, or any activity which gets your mind off the problems back home. Getting away for a few days can provide a new perspective, and even though the problem will still be waiting for you at home, the time away can help you figure out how to manage your troubles.

Diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, insomnia, failed relationships and lack of energy are all caused by a constant exposure to stress and over work and the inability to get sufficient rest and relaxation can cause irreparable health problems.

Book a short vacation for a few days if you need to relax because life is getting you down, are overworked, worried or tired and low. Step away from the typical environment and routine and utilize that time for recharging energy and increasing flagging spirits.
